Alternative Sauce Product Development for Eco-Friendly CPG Food Retail Start Up Brand

Research shows that consumers are concerned with not only the makeup of the products they consume but more importantly how the product was produced and the sustainability of its ingredients. When my most recent client reached out to me in hopes to develop an alternative condiment free of soy, I was incredibly interested to learn more about their concept.

"Since the 1950s, global soybean production has increased 15 times over. Without proper safeguards, the soybean industry is causing widespread deforestation and displacement of small farmers and indigenous peoples around the globe.", according to the World Wildlife Fund.

My client intended to counteract this phenomenon by bringing to market a soy-free dipping sauce alternative, intriguing the environmentally conscious consumers within the industry.

This recipe development project was unlike any I’ve done before, and because of that, it’s easily one of projects I’m most proud of.

Over the course of several months, I worked to prepare various dessert recipes that look and taste exactly like what you buy at restaurants and eateries throughout the country (and all over the world)!

So if you’re ready, I’d love to show you how it all went down.

We’ve all had that one idea that we think would make millions. A new chip flavor. A healthy juice concept. Your famous secret recipe. But let’s be honest - it’s not the easiest thing to launch in the food industry. The food industry is HUGE from the outside looking in - how do you get your product in the right hands? Who do you talk to? Where do you start? How do you even know that your idea will actually sell?

It’s a bit scary to hear that of the nearly 30,000 new consumer good product launches in a year, upwards of 85% of them fail. And the number one reason for failing - lack of preparation, my friends. That’s why it is so important to do the work upfront to make sure the your concept has functionality and value for the consumer.
